Poloxamer 407, also known as Pluronic® F-127 or Synperonic PE/F 127, is a hydrophilic non-ionic surfactant classified as a triblock copolymer. It consists of a central hydrophobic block of polypropylene glycol flanked by two hydrophilic blocks of polyethylene glycol (PEG), with the PEG blocks approximately 101 repeat units in length and the polypropylene glycol block approximately 56 repeat units long. This compound is widely used in cosmetics, contact lens cleaning solutions, and bioprinting due to its unique phase-change properties. It is also approved by the FDA for use in pharmaceutical dosage forms. Poloxamer 407's reversible gelation properties, molecular weight of around 12.6 kDa, and approximately 70% polyoxyethylene content contribute to its diverse applications and potential in various industries.
